Saint of 9/11
7:15 & 9:15pm Nightly Sat & Sun Matinee @ 5:15pm
Saint of 9/11 presents the remarkable journey of Fr. Mychal Judge, a Franciscan Friar priest who was the Fire Department of New York’s official chaplain. Father Judge passed away on Sept. 11, 2001, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. This documentary on his life weaves together interviews with friends and colleagues from the FDNY as well as archival footage of Fr. Mychal’s own words. Included in the film is commentary from Shannon Stapleton, the Reuters photographer who took the striking photo of Fr. Judge’s deceased body being taken away from the World Trade Center site.
A beloved fire department chaplain, rousing Irish-American balladeer and iconoclast, Fr. Judge knew pain and suffering. He was a humble parish priest who wrestled with his own private demons: He struggled with alcoholism and was an outspoken AA advocate. He was a gay man who loved his priestly work. As people attest to in this poignant documentary, through his own vulnerability and imperfections, he was able to reach people in their pain and fragility.
Fire department and all emergency response professionals will be admitted for half price with a valid ID. The Minnesota Film Arts’ Bell Museum Auditorium venue is located at 17th and University Avenue SE, Minneapolis. Admission is $8 general, $6.00 seniors/students, and $5 members of Minnesota Film Arts.
