Thursday, November 11 * OPENING NIGHT!

7:30 pm
Showgirls

With live narration by David Schmader

Directed by Paul Verhoeven (1995) USA, video, apprx 128 min.

When Seattle writer and performer David
Schmader encountered the mind-bending
magic of Paul Verhoeven’s SHOWGIRLS, he
was enthralled. Over the next six months,
Schmader test-screened the film for friends,
who confirmed his suspicion that SHOWGIRLS
was the most inadvertent, surreally hilarious
comedy in film history. In 2000, Schmader
took his theory public, and film festival
audiences have been guffawing ever since.
David will give a lecture, and then screen the
film--stopping to introduce themes, highlight
motifs, and rewind key scenes--in all its glory.
