7:30 pm Eating Out

Directed by Q Allan Brocka (2004) U.S., video, 90 minutes.

Complete with snappy repartee, sidesplitting performances and an over-the-top plot, director Q. Allan Brocka’s first feature is the ultimate gay farce. Straight Caleb is hot for Gwen, but she prefers gay men. Caleb’s gay roommate Kyle is crushing on Gwen’s ultra-sexy best friend Marc. When Kyle suggests Caleb try to seduce Marc to get the attention of Gwen, all hell breaks loose. Sound confusing? Well, the lives of horny college boys are always complicated. Winner of the Levi’s First Feature Award at the 2004 Frameline Film Festival.

9:20 pm Straight: A Conversion Comedy (David Schmader present!)

Directed by Jeff Meyers (2002) USA, video, 100 minutes.

Join acclaimed writer/performer David Schmader as he plunges into the heart of
the "Exodus Movement" --going undercover at "ex-gay" support groups, and
engaging in an intensive crash course in Christian heterosexuality ...deep in the
heart of Texas. Schmader deploys a wry honesty that spares neither Christian
conversionists nor the unconverted in this uproarious take on sexual
reprogramming. “Brilliant, biting, and fall-off-your-seat funny…an ambitious,
fiercely intelligent exploration of being gay in America.”--Seattle Times

11:45 pm The Adventure of Iron Pussy (Hua jai tor ra nong)

Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Michael Shaowanasai (2003)
Thailand, video, in Thai with English subtitles, 90 minutes.

Part Black Lizard, part Pink Panther, part Austin
Powers, part-man, part-woman; secret agent Iron Pussy
and her motorcycle taxi-driving sidekick Pew
investigate a money laundering scheme while singing
and dancing their way through their adventures.
Iron Pussy, master of disguise, goes undercover as a
maid in the home of the money launderer, but may have compromised the mission by falling for the son of the
woman she is investigating. This film is atypical of
director Apichatpong Weeresthakul, whose Tropical
Malady screens at Bell Auditorium on Thursday,
November 18 and Friday, November 19.
