Winner of four Australian Film Institute Awards, including Best Picture, Look Both Ways follows death-obsessed illustrator Meryl and terminally ill photographer Nick, a pair of oddballs who meet by chance at the site of a horrific train wreck. Under the watch of their equally quirky circle of friends, Meryl and Nick embark on a hasty and seemingly ill-fated romance, guiding each other – and the audience – through a curious meditation on life, love and shark attacks that brings to mind the best work of P.T. Anderson.

“Existentialist meditation and romantic comedy are not exactly inclusive genres, but Watt’s ability to balance disparate conceptual elements – even incorporating animated sequences to striking effect – distinguishes Look Both Ways as a notable debut.” – Eye Weekly, Toronto

Sarah Watt is an accomplished animator with nearly twenty short films to her credit. Her 2001 production Living with Happiness– the inspiration for portions of Look Both Ways – won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Short Animation. This is her first feature.
