Camp Out is a documentary film centered on Bay Lake Camp in rural Minnesota, first overnight camp for gay Christian youth. The camp serves as a retreat for gay and lesbian teenagers who want to openly explore Christianity with their peers in a caring, accepting environment. The kids who attend this camp have refused to turn their back on God and instead are struggling to find a way to be true to both their spirituality and their sexual identity – to be the whole person God intended them to be. The group of teens bond with each other, as well as with a band of tolerant camp counselors and openly gay pastors. Pastor Jay says it best when he describes the camp’s philosophy: “You shouldn’t have to throw away religion or deny your sexuality or sexual identity, [as those things] are a piece of what we’re all meant to be.” This film tackles the question of why these kids yearn to be a part of the Christian faith.

Kirk Marcolina was the Co-Executive Producer of Bravo’s Boy Meets Boy and the Creator and Supervising Producer of Bravo’s Gay Weddings. Currently Marcolina is the Co-Executive Producer of TLC’s That Yin Yang Thing.

Larry Grimaldi has worked in television and film for the past 14 years. This is his first foray into the world of documentary filmmaking. Grimaldi is currently directing multiple episodes of That Yin Yang Thing, a new reality series for TLC. Grimaldi began his career working for veteran film producer Freddie Fields.
