Aku Louhimies based this film on a novel by Leo Tolstoy, The Forged Coupon, in which one evil deed is passed on to others. The film explores the unpleasdant downside of high tech, market-oriented Finnish society. In this film, Tuomas is a young computer hacker who wishes to accomplish something significant and useful to the society. He is engaged to Elina, an intelligent young woman studying history and political science at the university. Elina and Tuomas have had a happy relationship for over a year and are planning to get married. Tuomas´s best friend Niko has more of a rock mentality than him, leading a more hedonistic life in the world of drugs and alcohol. A chain reaction of events starts after Niko forges a 500-euro note on Tuomas’ computer, leading to grim consequences for all the characters.

Aku Louhimies attended Billings (Montana) West High School for a year (1985–1986) before returning to his native Finland to study humanities at Helsinki University and film at the University of the Arts and Design. His first feature film was Restless (2000). In 2004 he was named the best director in Finland.
