| Daniel Dareus, a successful international conductor, suffers a breakdown, interrupts his career and returns to his childhood village in Norrland in the far north of Sweden. It doesn’t take long before he is asked to come and listen to a small church choir, which practices every Thursday in the parish hall. All they ask him to do is stop by and give some advice to them. He can’t say no, and from that moment nothing in the village is the same again. He starts to rehearse with the choir. It develops and grows. He makes both friends and enemies. And he finds love. Kay Pollak has a PhD and is a university teacher in Mathematical Statistics. After a long break from film-making, he returned in 2004 with As it is in Heaven (Så som i himmelen), a major box office success in Sweden. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It was also nominated for eight Swedish Guldbagge Awards, including Best Direction and Best Film but didn’t win one. Pollack made his first feature film in 1976.
