Legendary Max von Sydow plays Grandfather in a new adaptation of the classic 19th century children’s novel, Heidi--a perfect translation of the original text with beautiful sets, costumes, and the spectacular Alpine backdrop. An unsociable old man is forced to care for his orphaned granddaughter when she arrives at his mountain hut. Heidi slowly brings the old man to life, befriends a goat-herder named Peter, and grows to love mountain life deeply. Heidi’s hard-hearted Aunt takes the child to bourgeois Frankfurt to be civilized and serve as a companion for confined Clara. Again, Heidi’s spirit changes the lives of those around her, though she longs to return to the Alps and her beloved Grandfather. – DG
