The Russian knife thrower Alexander Sapatin, known as “the Master,” drowns his past and talent in vodka. He is part of a daily show of a traveling circus. One night he lets the animals out of their cages in a drunken stupor; therefore, he has to leave and starts up his own show. Along the way, he rescues a woman. She joins him in his bus and becomes his assistant. Later on, an accordion player joins them who seems to be running away from himself, his family and his past. A traveling French woman becomes part of the group, and a short-lived friendship evolves amongst the searching souls. Alexander has lost his ability to love and his trust in love. He creates a wall between himself and the others. For a moment it seems as if the young woman is able to change everything. Will he seize the opportunity offered to him? A fascinating and romantic road movie in a picturesque landscape.
