The official Dutch selection for the 2005 Oscars in the United States, Simon was filmed primarily on Koh Chang, a spectacular tropical island on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand, just near the border with Cambodia. As the first feature film to shoot on the island, the production utilized spectacular jungle, beach and waterfall locations to tell the story of a Dutch man reliving his past as he confronts his own death. Simon is the second in Terstall’s comic trilogy on Dutch life (including the widely-known M-SPIFF hit: Rent-a-Friend). Based on the novel Bastards and Bridesmaids, the film version has won awards in The Netherlands including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor Award, and The Golden Calf Tiscali Audience Award.

Eddy Terstall studied sociology and politics at the University of Amersterdam. His debut film Transit, and the following film Walhalla showed Terstall as a politcal filmmaker.
