Pietro Germi’s 1961 satiric farce on Italian divorce laws and aristocracy. It stars Marcello Mastroanni in one of his most pungent roles as a bored Sicilian baron in a plot to get rid of his wife An international poll of critics voted the film one of the Twelve Best Comedies of All Time (1967); it won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay as well.
Film times will reverse and show 9:15pm Monday, Nov. 24, and Tuesday, Nov. 25. In Italian, with English subtitles, the fetching Stefania Sandrelli and leading comic Leopoldo Trieste complement the story’s deft cast. A brand new 35mm print will be shown.
