PONTYPOOL - Late Night Horror Series
Director: Bruce McDonald
Talk radio and zombies make an eerily satisfying mix in Pontypool, playing Thursday through Saturday at 9:30pm. Part of the new Horror Series at the Oak Street presenting a new film every week.
Disgraced shock jock Grant Mazzy (perfectly cast Stephen McHattie) isn’t that excited about his new job headlining a morning radio show in the small Ontario town of Pontypool. But his first day turns out to be anything but boring when reports start coming in about local citizens who appear to have turned into zombies. With little information to go on, Grant’s producer Sydney (Lisa Houle) and technician Laurel Ann (Georgina Reilly) race to keep their audience informed and save their own lives. Pontypool is still unique and good enough to make a strong impression. With a tiny cast and only one significant location (the radio station), McDonald’s film is the latest evidence that you don’t need a lot of money to make an effectively chilling horror movies. The secret of what's really happening in Pontypool is best left unsaid (you'll get it when you see the movie), but it's creepy enough to haunt your mind.
